White Paper: Data Modeling Strategies for Embedded Database

Data modeling is a design technique used by developers to help understand complex problems involving interrelated information. This technique originates in enterprise databases where hundreds of tables can store billions of records.

Unlike other design techniques, such as class diagrams, data modeling focuses on the inherent relationships between pieces of information, independent of how that data is to be used. Constraints are identified to prevent data from being used in ways that do not make sense. Program logic is not described by the data model, but does influence the data model's design.

This white paper shows how data modeling techniques can be applied to embedded software development.
